ESO-34-1G-11 (The Southern Ring Galaxy)

The Southern Ring Galaxy in Volans is approx. 380 MLY distance.

One of only a few ring galaxies in the Milky Way. These galaxies are the chance results of one galaxy ploughing through the larger galaxy pretty close to head on.

This acts like a stone thrown on to a pond creating ripples on the surface of the water.

Telescope.  16 Inch F4.5 Newtonian.
