M 77 & NGC 1055

M 77 & NGC 1055

M 77 is a barred face-on Seyfert spiral galaxy in the constellation of Cetus and at a distance of about 47 MLY.

M77 has a very active galactic nucleus with numerous fine dust lanes. A few distance background galaxies can be seen through the outer halo of the galaxy.

NGC 1055 is an edge – on spiral galaxy slightly more distant  than M77. This galaxy has a boxy halo that extends far above and below the central bulge.

A broad dust lane runs across the length of the galaxy with several tiny H11 regions against the dust lane.
