M 83 (Southern Pinwheel Galaxy)

M 83 is a bright close barred face-on spiral galaxy in Hydra at a distance of 15 MLY.

A great example of a face-on galaxy that has many H11 regions in its spiral arms. There have been 6 supernovae recorded in this galaxy over the past 100 years.
