NGC 1316-17

NGC 1316-17 (10inch) (90) (crop)

NGC 1316-17.

NGC 1316 is also known as Fornax A, it is a lenticular galaxy 60 MLY away in Fornax. The outer envelope contains many ripples, loops and arcs. This suggests that NGC 1316 was built up through the merger of several galaxies. Also NGC 1316 appears to be interacting with NGC 1317 a smaller galaxy .(top)
