NGC 247 is a dwarf spiral galaxy about 11 MLY distance in Cetus, and is a member of the Sculptor Group.

The most striking feature of NGC 247 is the void, area of lack of stars at the lower part of this galaxy, hence its nickname of the Needle’s Eye Galaxy.

The 5 small, different shaped galaxies in a row to the lower right of NGC 247 is known as Burbidge’s Chain.
