NGC 253

A large bright beautiful dusty edge – on spiral galaxy in Sculptor at a distance of 13 MLY.

The largest member of the Sculptor Group of galaxies, being about 30 min. of arc long. Due to the frantic birth and death of stars within NGC 253, it is considered to be a starburst galaxy.
