NGC 2997

NGC 2997

NGC 2997 is a grand design spiral galaxy in Antlia at about 40 MLY distance. This spiral has well defined blue spiral arms made up of young hot blue stars that give this galaxy its brightness. Also many red H11 regions of star formation. The faint dust lanes are silhouetted against a yellowish older central section of this galaxy.

A very faint small polar ring galaxy is at a 2 o’clock position from the centre on a faint arm. (right of bright star).
