NGC 2997

NGC 2997 is a face on spiral galaxy 40 MLY distant in Antlia and is classed as a grand design spiral. This class of galaxies have prominent well defined spiral arms. These arms have numerous bright red blobs while the hot bright blue stars give the arms their colour.

The small nucleus hosts an older population of yellowish stars.
