NGC 2997

NGC 2997.

NGC 2997 is a face-on spiral galaxy 40 MLY distant in Antlia and is classed as a grand design spiral. These class of galaxies have prominent, well defined spiral arms . These arms have numerous bright red blobs while the hot bright blue stars give the arms their colour.

The small nucleus hosts an older population of yellowish stars.
