Cometary Globule 4 (Hand of God)

CG 4 (Hand of God)

Cometary globules typically characterized by dusty heads and elongated tails, features that resemble comets, but are very different.

CG 4 is a star forming region located in the constellation of Puppis at a distance of 1300 light years.

The small galaxy that the mouth of CG 4 appears to be ready to consume is ESO 257-19 and is at a distance of over 100 million light years further away.

CG 4 and the nearby cometary globules generally point away from  the Vela Supernova Remnant located at the centre of the Gum Nebula.
