M 78

M 78 is a reflection nebula in the constellation of Orion and is part of a group of diffuse nebulae belonging to the Orion B molocular cloud complex which is about 1350 light years distant.

Two B type stars are responsible for making the cloud of M 78 visible.

There are over 40 T Tauri type young stars still forming , also 17 Herbig-Haro objects are known in this nebula.

A very interesting and dramatic area in Orion.
