NGC 1360  (Robin’s Egg Nebula)

NGC 1360 is a planetary nebula in Fornax. Bi – polar reddish material is believed to have been ejected from the original star before its final collapse. Distance is estimated to be 700 LY.

This unusual shaped object was not identified as a planetary nebula till 1946.

The central star is very hot and extremely luminous and is classed as a Wolf- Rayet type star.

Field of view.  25 x 25 arc minutes.

Telescope.  16 Inch F 4.5 Newtonian.

Camera.  S Big ST 4000 XCM OSC CCD.

Exposure and Dates.  12 x 600 sec. + 13 x 900 sec.  Nov 2012,  Nov 2016.
