NGC 3576 – NGC 3603

NGC 3576 – NGC 3603.

NGC 3576 (Statue of Liberty Nebula). This complex episodes of star formation has contributed the 2 huge curved filaments of nebulosity and is in Carina at a distance of 9,000 light years.

NGC 3603 is also another area of active star formation but at a much further distance of 20,000 light years. NGC 3603 has the distinction of being the most massive H11 region in the Milky Way. The small star cluster at the centre of this nebula contains some of the most massive stars in our galaxy.

Dark patches of nebulosity are very prominent, especially at the bottom section of the field and star cluster NGC 3590. (bottom edge).
