NGC 602

NGC 602

NGC 602 is a bright very young open cluster on the outskirts of the Small Magellanic Cloud, which is another satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, at a distance of 196,000 light years. Shock waves and radiation has sculptured this nebula into this striking shape and triggered star formation. There is an extremely faint broad tail of material extending away from the nebula towards the bottom right.

N 89 is the larger bright HII region (lower left) which surrounds the star cluster Lindsay 104.
