Sh2-9  (Gum 65)

Sh2-9 is a nebula of emission and reflection nebulosity in the constellation of Scorpius, surrounding the 2nd mag. star Sigma Scorpii.

Sigma Scorpii is a variable giant star and is thought to be ionizing the area.

Sh2-9 is close to the better known M4 and Antares.
