Tarantula Nebula (NGC 2070)

Tarantula Nebula (NGC 2070)

NGC 2070 also known as 30 Doradus, is a huge H11 region in the LMC , a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way.

NGC 2070 is estimated to be more than 100 times the size of the Orion Nebula and if placed at its distance it would cover 30 degrees of sky and cast shadows at night.

NGC 2070 is about 1000 light years across and at a distance of 160,000 light years. The power house of this nebula is R 136, a very young, very dense star burst region of some of the brightest, hottest and densest stars ever recorded.
