Omega Centauri. (NGC 5139)

Omega Centauri

NGC 5139 is the largest and most spectacular of all the globular clusters, extending out to about I degree across and 17,000 LY distance.

It is thought that NGC 5139 is the left over of a dwarf galaxy, at a 230 light years diameter it is about 10 times more massive than a typical globular cluster. Recent research suggests there is a medium sized black hole at its centre.
